Spent two Pongals in a really traditional setup. This was at Isha Yoga Center near Coimbatore. Pongal is the harvest festival. It is celebrated as Makar Sankranti in most other parts of India.
Apart from the difference in the name, the way of celebration is also very different.

Stirring and checking if the rice is cooked…. some sweet stuff like jaggery may be added to the rice…
All Indian festivals always bring together the community and are celebrated together…..
Even the earthen pots are garlanded and honoured in the celebrations. It’s time to give thanks to the Earth for sustaining us
Dancing… after all this is a celebration….
