Calmly impressive railway station. Has some old and understated vibe coupled with many modern facilities. It was a good combo.
Post Category: India, West India

Recently, I took a train from Nasik to Mumbai. This was thanks to some terrible repair work happening near Palghar on NH48. If not for that repair work, I would have driven down from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. Which I have done earlier.

Read about my Ahmedabad to Coimbatore drive via Mumbai in 2023 here.

Nasik is a HUGE City!

Visiting Nasik brought many realizations. Amongst these, the first one was that Nasik is a LARGE city! My friend’s house was in Ambad village in the West of Nasik. I entered the city via the Peint Ghat road (North of Nasik), it took 40 minutes to Ambad. And from Ambad to Nasik railway station was another 30 – 40 minutes! The railway station was to the South of Nasik. So, you can understand… how widespread the city is.

Considering it is the 4th largest city of Maharashtra – I found it quite HUGE with so many roads and traffic and infrastructure just like a metro!

India’s cities are going places! It was a happy discovery!

BTW I have visited Nasik & Trimbakeshwar jyotirlinga before, for the kumbhmela but I was focused on exploring the event. So, I didn’t get much idea of the actual city.

Nasik Road Railway Station

The main railway station in Nasik is the Nasik Road Railway Station. It is not in the center of the city as one might expect. It is almost at the South-end of Nasik. So, if you are traveling there, do factor in the time. If you are at some other end of the city, reaching the station could take as much as 1 hour.

My other pleasant discovery on this Nasik Road Railway station were the many waiting rooms, stay options and sleeping pods. I didn’t know sleeping pods had made entry to Indian railway stations. It was a pleasant discovery. Though I do wonder about their quality. If you have experience using any of these do let me know your review in the comments!

Escalators & Lifts have become commonplace in our railway stations. The first few times I saw the lifts and escalators in railway stations, it felt modern and new. Now I am slowly getting used to it. Most of the main platforms in larger stations have a lift. Same with Nasik station.

My Mumbai Rajdhani express train came in at Platform no. 3 and there was a Lift and Escalator service on the bridge leading to it.

All in all, my experience at this station was very calm and relaxing. I enjoyed it. Plus, I felt good to see the progress and state of things especially consider the large volume of footfall these places see in India.
