Health Retreats in India – Naturopathy, Ayurvedic and others

Even though I do yoga regularly at home, I feel the urban lifestyle soon catches up to me. I look forward to health retreats in some clean and refreshing place far from the city! I have done some research to find a few health retreats, these are low to medium budget places,

Nisargopchar Ashram – Uruli Kanchan, Pune

This place has come with some really strong recommendations. It is a centre started by Mahatma Gandhi and has remained very good. Simple and effective. The website: http://www.nisargopcharashram.org/

I feel it is too simple than what I would like,  a bit more pricey with a idyllic swimming pool would be preferable! :)

Coral Naturopathy – Deolali

Almost as if someone heard me crib abt less swanky, a practitioner from Uruli Kanchan has opened Coral Naturopathy Centre in Deolali. The website is too basic so I am not sure what exact facilities they have but they do have a swimming pool! :) The website: http://www.coralnaturopathy.com

This place also came to me with a recommendation.

Jindal Nature Cure Institute – Bangalore

This is quite a well known place. It has a mix of naturopathy, ayurvedic and allopathic treatment options. Due to the allopathic facilities, I feel it is a bit like the usual hospital hence some folks may not like it much. Apart from that it has all the various features like gyms, cycling, massages and good food! The website: http://jindalnaturecure.org/

Nature Cure – Joka, Kolkata

One of my aunts has spent quite a bit of time here for her arthritis. The naturopathy diet is quite strict but if followed has a lot of benefits. The website: http://naturecure.in

It looks quite pretty and green! This is the centre I am most inclined to visit.

Isha Rejuvenation – Coimbatore

Part of the Isha Foundation Ashram in Coimbatore, it has some interesting programs. Most of these program are only for those who have done the basic yoga program with them. Its a small centre surrounded by a reserve forest. Quite serene. They have various alternative treatments and also provide allopathic consultation. Last I knew, it was quite reasonably priced but not aware of the rates currently. The website: http://www.ishafoundation.org/IshaRejuvenation

I have done a 21-day program with them around 2006 – 2007. It was fairly interesting and left me rejuvenated. I am not aware of how their activities have expanded and the scope of the treatment, follow up options and such matters.

Ayushman – Pondicherry

I found this place via Google search, so no recommendations, but I have done many ayurvedic massages from Arya Vaidya Pharmacy and all of their centres have been well maintained, reasonably priced and effective. The photos show a fairly good place. Now I just need to check the tariff. The website: http://ayushman.in

Being in Pondicherry makes it more attractive as I like that city. There are a few other things I am looking forward to do there like surfing and visiting Matri Mandir.

Arya Vaidya Pharmacy, Coimbatore

Talking about Arya Vaidya Pharmacy related above center in Pondicherry, I have visited the Arya Vaidya Pharmacy center in Coimbatore. This is one of their prominent centers and I have been consulting their doctor for many months now. AVP medicines have always worked very well for me.

This center has a holistic retreat environment where one can stay and pursue longer treatments including massages, panchkarma and all such stuff. One of my relatives spent much time here for some knee problems and she was pretty happy with it. Read my longer blog about it.

SDM Yoga and Nature Cure Hospital

I was chatting with a friend and he spent quite some time at this hospital. He was 106 kg and so a break from his fast paced city life was necessary. That’s when he found this place. He tells me they are really good and reasonably priced too. Site: https://www.naturecure.org.in/

Vijayan Gurukkal (Kalaripayattu & Ayurvedic Massages)

Got a great recommendation for this place from two people recently. Looking forward visiting soon. They have authentic and traditional Kalaripayattu classes. One can also get ayurvedic massages, wholesome foods and health treatments in the natural way here. Site: http://cvnkalarieasthill.com/ (the site doesn’t have much info. You can call to find more info). I learnt kalari here for only a few days.

Apart from the above options, I am also looking at spas but most of them tend to be quite expensive. Lets see where I choose to go finally will blog abt it! :)
