I have a series of videos on growing the Rudraksha tree in our Indian homes (watch the video series here). As that series went on, I wondered if I could find Rudraksha trees nearby which I could visit (and maybe even get a sapling). That’s when I found out that the newspaper coverage of Rudraksha trees is very low quality. In many articles, individual trees on some campus are claimed to be the ONLY rudraksha tree in the state. Or they are promoting some other tree species that looks like Rudraksh as a legitimate substitute and many more totally misinforming articles. At the same time, I started discovering places that have authentic Rudraksha trees – there are quite a few!
I suspect there are many people, like me, who would love to go and spot a Rudraksha tree if they knew about it. Well, here’s a list that I will keep adding to :) I have also written about places in Nepal where we can see Rudraksha trees or even farms!
Locations to Find Rudraksha Trees in India
I hope to be able to find at least a few Rudraksha Trees in all states of India. However, so far I have only the following Indian states with specific place information. Pls click on a specific state name, or simply keep scrolling further to know all the locations I have found so far,

Beatles Ashram Rishikesh, Uttarakhand
Sandeep, the speaker in my aatmic videos saw his first Rudraksha tree growing wild in the Beatles Ashram in Rishikesh. It is probably still there, so that’s one more place to explore when we are nearby. As per Sandeep, there are many Rudraksha trees in the Beatles ashram. The place is in ruins so it is difficult to pinpoint one location but he remembers some near the stone meditation caves. (you can ping him on Twitter to know more)
Swargashram, Rishikesh, Uttarakhand
This video about Swargashram accommodations in Rishikesh, has a bit on Rudraksha tree found in one of the ashram areas. I think this is the area around the Geetapress Bhavan, which is a little way away from the main Swargashram reception area. But you can always enquire at the reception and I think they should be able to tell you where it would be. There is a sandal wood tree near it, also worth a look because the government has some weird trade embargoes on them dating from age old redundant rules which makes it a much sought after rarity.
Rudraksha Trees in Tamil Nadu
Isha Yoga Center, Tamil Nadu
There are two trees that anyone staying inside Isha Yoga Center will be able to spot. Behind the Vault offices of the Dhyanalinga complex. As a visitor to the temple – you WON’T be allowed in this area. You need to be staying inside to access this place. Please enquire about the security rules and how you can go to this place in the ashram .
Sims Park, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu
While Ooty’s Botanical garden is more well known, the Sims park in Coonoor is also popular in local circles. I have been there but cannot recall seeing a Rudraksha tree. Found this interesting website that documents specific tree species in various regions. It included one entry for Rudraksha tree in Bangalore. In a place called Udupi Kakkonje Garodi in Tulunadu which is officially part of Karnataka state, interesting article about 2 rudraksha trees which are being worshipped and considered sacred. More here. And they mention the original saplings were from Ganeshpuri, Maharashtra – so that is then a potential place for us to explore Rudraksha trees as well.

Pls see my note about the two trees in Udupi, Karnataka. Their story suggests that the saplings were brought from Ganeshpuri Nithyananda ashram. So, I think the ashram may have some more trees, but needs to be explored.
