About the Timings, Duration, Seating, Tickets of Divya Darshanam

Does Adiyogi Light Show Happen Daily? What are the Timings?

Adiyogi light show happens daily at 7pm in Coimbatore and Chikkaballapur (Bangalore). It is part of a longer program which includes music performance (live or recorded), chanting, yogeshwar linga aarti and sometimes a fire dance by the volunteers.

In Chikkaballapur, there could be a traffic congestion especially on weekends that won’t let you enter if you arrive too close to the timing slot. I am not sure if this happens in Coimbatore. But on the safe side, best if you plan to reach earlier by 5.30 pm latest even on weekdays. Click a few pictures with the setting sun and then find the best spot and relax for the light show to start!

Also note, the light show will BE CANCELLED if it is raining. Because rain can damage the projection equipment. However, the management tries to do the light show a little before or after the actual time if rain seems to have stopped for a while. The timings of the divya darshanam may vary a little depending on other events and other factors also. For example, during Amavasya or Pournima there could be some other events which could delay this light show.

When I was in Chikkaballapur center, there was the Saptarshi Aarti conducted by Kashi Pujaris. That time, Sadhguru and other dignitaries’ discourses went on till 8pm or so. And the final light show happened much later. Once when a Sadhguru Satsang happened in Chikkaballapur center, a second light show was organized at 10pm at night (these things are usually quite rare though).

You can call Isha Foundation helpline number to get up-to-date information: +91-8300083111

Also check this website page for any announcements from the organization: https://isha.sadhguru.org/us/en/center/consecrated-spaces/112-feet-adiyogi I think this only has details of the Coimbatore Adiyogi. The organization website isn’t updated with a plan for showcasing 2 ADIYOGIs yet 😀

What’s the Duration of this Light Show?

The exact light show duration is 14 minutes. However, the security and volunteers will start ushering the people in a seating area and some chanting and music will play from 7pm. After the Divya Darshanam there is a Yogeshwar Linga aarti, which could take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes. So, if you consider the time slot from 7 to 8 pm, it is better that the exact light show timings.

Traffic Considerations to Reach Well in Time to Watch this Laser Show!

Moreover, you need to consider the traffic situation IF you plan to reach just on time for the light show. Because of traffic congestion when a LOT of vehicles get there at the same time, you may be stuck for 30-40 minutes easily before being able to enter, park and then walk to the venue. So, don’t plan to reach JUST on time if you are taking a vehicle. If you are on foot or cycle, then maybe it is manageable to time it close. If you going in a vehicle I would suggest reaching there minimum by 5.30 pm. And even earlier on weekends. And don’t expect to leave right away after the laser show, because everyone will want to do that. So, keep a buffer of another one hour AFTER the show on safe side. To avoid any hardship and frustration.

What is the Ticket Price for the Adiyogi Light Show? Where Can I Book this 3D Projection Experience?

The Adiyogi Laser Show is completely free and open for all to attend. No booking needed. Just be there before time for the best viewing experience!

What are the Best Seats to Watch Adiyogi Divya Darshanam?

isha mahashivratri 2022
This is the Mahashivratri image, taken from much further away. See how I can see the entire bust? That’s what you want for the light show. You don’t want to sit too close where the bust is blocked by something coming in the way.

While volunteering at Adiyogi Bangalore, I saw that a lot of people want to sit as close to Adiyogi as possible for the light show. This is a mistake, because the closer you sit to Adiyogi, the Yogeshwar Temple gopuram blocks the Adiyogi from view. The light show is completely on the Adiyogi Statue itself, so you want to ensure you have a clear view of the entire bust. Which means, you should sit at least some way away from the statue.

Another aspect to be careful about is that almost EVERYONE wants to take photos or videos of the Divya Darshanam while it is happening. And mobile’s are very bright devices, sometimes the flashes are on, this can disturb your experience. So, ideally, you will have a clear view of the Adiyogi bust and will be somewhat further away from a lot of people who may at any time raise their hands up to take a pic.

All said and done, you can also just go with the flow, find reasonably good seating places and enjoy the experience along with everyone else. People start hooting and cheering during the light show, I find this very enjoyable and heartening.

Note: there are usually no actual ‘seats’, one needs to sit out in the open, on the stones of the Adiyogi walkway. I personally find it comfortable enough but if it is raining or you would like a mat, then you can carry one with you.

Full Video from the Front Row

As volunteers, when we sit close to the Adiyogi, part of the view gets cropped. This is how we see the light show right from the front row… We have to head to the temple right afterwards, that is why we sit here. Otherwise, I would go behind to watch 🙂

About Yogeshwar Aarti After the Light Show

What Happens After the Adiyogi Divya Darshanam? Is there a Yogeshwar Linga Aarti?

Yes, after the divya darshanam there is an aarti of Yogeshwar Linga, maybe some chanting. It doesn’t take much time. The Coimbatore Adiyogi has a slightly longer Aarti and chanting program afterwards… and the aarti fire is kept later on for everyone to go and ‘take’ it. But in Chikkaballapur, Bangalore, the aarti is quite short with not much chanting and there is only one fire sometimes which a lot of people line up for, so one may not be able to take it.

However, the Yogeshwar Linga remains open in Chikkaballapur for a quick darshan after the light show, so you can make use of that. I am not sure whether this is the case in Coimbatore also.

What’s the Significance of Yogeshwar Linga Aarti After the Adiyogi Light Show?

As Sadhguru has often mentioned, though I wasn’t able to dig up an exact quote, this line from the website summarizes, “With the presence of the Yogeshwar Linga, Adiyogi becomes a living entity.” Adiyogi could be any statue, and it creates a grand visual. But it is not a “temple” or an “idol”. Obviously, people can have their faith, bhakti and beliefs. But, the typical temple becomes alive with actual consecration of a deity in it. And this happens with Yogeshwar Linga which completes the “Adiyogi temple”.

The Adiyogi Divya Darshanam is a spectacular experience which would leave the viewers spellbound, this is a very receptive state to be in when near a deity or energy space. This was also the reason ancient temples had huge gopurams, because they want to wow / spellbind visiting devotees so they are most receptive to be with the deity once they enter the sanctum sanctorum. This, I would say is the main significance of the Yogeshwar Aarti after Divya Darshanam – the viewers have dropped their mental non-stop thinking and are in a receptive state of awe or wonder. And so, I would suggest to definitely go closer to get the aarti fire if you can and visit the Yogeshwar temple if it is open. Also, participating in the chanting after the event would be good.

My detailed blog post on the Yogeshwar Temple is here.

Useful Travel Information

How to get there,
Closest Airport: Coimbatore International Airport for Coimbatore Adiyogi, Bengaluru International Airport for Chikkaballapur Adiyogi. Private taxis will be available for about 1000 to 1500 INR for Coimbatore, 1500 to 2500 for Bengaluru.
Closest Railway Station: Coimbatore Junction railway station. Private taxis available for about 800 INR. Chikkaballapur has a small railway station with very little connectivity. So, if you are coming by train plan for Bangalore Junction or Cantonment and take a cab (or public transport)
Closest Bus Station: You can take a public bus from Bangalore to Chikkaballapur bus junction. But after that you are better off taking a private transport. Public buses do ply from Chikkaballapur to Adiyogi, but traffic congestion and frequency issues are there.

Best mode of transport: Rent a self-drive car from airport. If driving from Bengaluru, do check traffic before starting out 😉

When to visit,
Best day of week: Weekdays will be less crowded than weekends. Also, check for any festivals or events.
Best time of day: Early mornings have less crowds and ethereal experience. However, for Adiyogi lightshow, you need to come at the time as detailed above.
