The Adalaj ni Vav or Stepwell is very famous. However, there is more than the Adalaj ni vav in this small village of Adalaj located on the highway between the twin cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. These 3 beautiful temples are about 4 kms away from Adalaj village chowk, so do take a transport to come here – buses, BRTS, auto richshaws and Ola/Uber are all available easily.
Trimandir, Adalaj
There are more than 20 Trimandir temples across Gujarat and Maharashtra. The main one is here in Adalaj. It is a favourite spot for a lot of city folks around. Lot of people have fond memories around this temple – they used to meet their fiance here for long talks or when they want a quiet time, they would come to this temple alone. One can see families, small groups and solitary folk making use of this spiritual place every day.
This Trimandir is part of the Dada Bhagwan Foundation ashram, so there are more facilities in terms of stay, food and transportation. Get the full guide here: https://maproute.in/trimandir-adalaj-ahmedabad/
Orissa Jagannath Temple (JCARC Campus)
Very close to the Trimandir in a quiet lane is a beautifully made Orissa style Jagannath temple. The 3 idols of Balaram, Subhadra and Krishna are endearing. And they bring back strong memories of Jagannath Puri and Orissa (if you have been there). The artwork all over the main temple is well worth the visit. One can also get prasad or meals at specific times.
It is also the center of Odissi activities of the region including a traditional Odissi dance class happening on specific days of the week.
You may not be able to walk from Trimandir, as it would be quite a long walk, you can take a rickshaw for this short distance. At the beginning of the lane to this temple there is a Shani Mandir, you can visit that too if you wish. Map Location
Prabha Hanuman BAPS Temple
A few minutes walk from the Trimandir, on the highway is an ancient temple of Hanumanji built by the BAPS community. Swaminarayan himself spend time at this spot. There is a well from which he drank water. There was a local Hanuman temple here, which they then re-built into a grander place. There is also a smaller Swaminarayan temple adjoining it. It is lovely place, great for a solitary time spend or visit with family. There is a Goshala here and we can feed the cattle some greens.
Recently, an INOX theater and Honest restaurant have come right across this Prabha Hanuman Temple. So, looks like this area is set for some development in the future. Looking forward to see what else comes here.
